Xian is located in the center of China, so it is a very important transportation hub connecting the east and west of China. As the development of transportation, it becomes more and more convenient to get to and from the city by air, by train and by coach. Meanwhile, the incity transportation is also well-developed. Visitors can get to any place of the city through buses and taxies. 

 By Air: Xian Xianyang International Airport operates 129 domestic air routes to 70 cities and 25 international air routes to 18 cities and areas. Passengers can get to other central or western Chinese cities such as Chengdu, Wuhan, Zhengzhou, Lanzhou, Xining and Yinchuan from Xianyang International Airport within one hour, and reach any Chinese provincial capital or important tourist city within three hours. There are Airport Shuttle Buses traveling from the airport to Xian City and Xianyang City everyday from morning to night, so it is very convenient for passengers to get to and from the airport. See Xian Flights.

 By Train: There are three railway stations in the city for passenger transport: Xian Railway Station, the South Railway Station, and the North Railway Station, among which Xian Railway Station is the major station for passenger transport; the South Railway Station only deals with the trains traveling from Xian on the Xi (Xian) - Kang (Ankang) Railway; the North Railway Station operates the bullet trains to Zhengzhou, Luoyang (Longmen), Hankou and Beijing. Xian Railway Station is not only one of the most importation railway stations in China, but also the one of the importation station of Eurasian Continental Bridge in China. There is a coach station and many bus terminals around Xian Railway Station for passengers to transfer to and from the railway station. See Xian Train Schedules.

 By Coach: There five main long-distance bus stations in the city: Shaanxi Xian Long-Distance Bus Station, Sanfuwan Long-Distance Bus Station, Chengnan Long-Distance Bus Station, Chengdong Long-Distance Bus Station, and Chengxi Long-Distance Bus Station. The long-distance lines operated by the stations can reach many places within and out of Shaanxi Province.

 Incity Transportation: Visitors can take buses or taxies in and around the city. There are over 200 bus lines currently, including 10 airport shuttles, 10 tourism routes and 4 night lines. Xian taxies are green and blue cars running with the sign 'Taxi'. The charges are CNY 6 for the first 2 km (1.2 miles) and additional CNY 1.5 per kilometer after 2 km from 06:00 - 23:00, and CNY 7 for the first 2 km and additional CNY 1.8 per kilometer after 2 km from 23:00 - 06:00.  From December 20, 2011, visitors can rent public bicycles at 20 bicycle rental outlets in the city with a special card. The card can be gotten by showing visitors' valid ID certificates and paying a deposit of CNY 825. For loal citizens, they need to submit their valid ID certificates, a certificate provided by their employers or their communities, and pay the deposit of CNY 325.
