Located in Sanzao Town of Nanhui District in Pudong New Area, Shanghai Wild Animal Zoo covers an area of 153 hectares and is one of China's biggest state-level wild animal parks.

The park falls into 5 sections: animal performing hall and areas for wild beasts, herbivores, penned animals and other animals. It is home to over 200 representative species of rare animals typical of the various regions in the world and the number of animals in the park is in excess of ten thousands. Of all the animals some are from other countries such as giraffes, zebras, antelopes and rhinoceroses, others are those in China under first-class state protection like giant pandas, golden monkeys, south-China tigers, and Asian elephants. You can tour around either through bus-riding area or walking area.

In the walking area, you have the chance to see the rare animals like white lions, white tigers, white kangaroos, Giant pandas, Yangtze alligators etc. It is no longer a dream to get close to the animals like alpaca, camel, zebra and elephant and take photos with them. It is even more joyful to work as a keeper by hugging and feeding the little pets. It is definitely a good way to let you know more about animal world.

In the bus-riding area, the gentlemanlike giraffe crane his neck in hopes of beckoning more tourists. The largest living land mammal elephant greet the visitors with warmest enthusiasm. It is much enjoyable to see one of the three national treasures golden-haired takins, the fastest runner in the world - cheetah. Bears, monkeys and foxes actively show off their stunts and solicit for food when the sightseeing buses are passing by. The fierce-looking tiger peer at the driving vehicles and its regal air is manifested completely.

In the animal performing hall, you can enjoy the wonderful artistic show performed by human and animals. The big animal-taming performance gets you shocked and excited. The sea lion is performed so well that visitors can't stop bursting out exclamation.

In Herbivore hall, the living environment of the animals is simulated to help them retain the wild survival instinct. Included are the grass, hills, forest, and lakes etc. Here elephant and rhinoceros are separately housed. The animals bred are large in categories and species including elk, takin, Asian elephant, giraffe, white rhinoceros, gemsbuck, springbok, blue gnu, black gnu, sea lion in South Africa and so forth. When you come to the second section, you get to the cheetah hall. Those cheetahs live in the environment similar to African tropic and semidesert grassland. Though being slenderer than other carnivore, cheetah is arguably the sprint champion running at a speed of 80 - 113 kilometers (50 - 70 miles) per hour. The third section of the bus-riding area is Lion Hall, where a group of ferocious African lions are living. African lion is the largest one in feline family. Male lion is healthy with mane from head to neck, and the female looks a little bit smaller in physiques. You can see the northeast tiger and south China tiger in the fifth hall. The tiger is weak in climbing, but good at swimming. Every time when the sightseeing bus passes by, they expect to be given some food.

To make sure you have a pleasant trip, some other facilities can be found in the park, such as Ferris wheel, electric cars, restaurants and hotels. It is a good choice to bring the children here to let them have the close touch with the lovely animals at the weekends.
