Next to Splendid China, China Folk Culture Village was opened on October 1st, 1991. It is the first cultural scenic area with a galaxy of folk arts of the ethnic groups, folk customs and residential buildings in China. It covers an area of more than 200,000 square meters (about 40 acres), in which there are 25 villages built at the proportion of 1:1. With an embodiment of '25 folk villages, 56 national customs', China Folk Culture Village is honored as a 'Museum of Chinese Folk Customs'.
In the residential buildings of the Grand View Garden, you will see the ship-like house of the Li minority, the 'three houses with a screen wall' of the Bai minority, a traditional Chinese courtyard of the Han nationality, etc. What accompany those residential buildings are the coconut forests of Hainan, the giant old banyan trees of Xishuangbanna, the peacocks showing their tail feathers and the roaming elephants. There is also the Stone Forest of Yunnan, the Thousand-Hand-and-Eye-Boddhisattva, the memorial archways of Huizhou, etc. The whole scenic area is like a beautiful picture made up of undulating green hills, cascading waterfalls and twisting streams. You can get around the villages by car, by ship, or just on foot.
There are performances of dancing and singing, making national handcrafts, national art parades and a museum of folklores, through which you can quickly get familiar with the colorful cultural arts of the 56 nationalities in China. More than ten workshops are set up in the villages, such as hand embroidery of the Wei minority and the batik of the Miao minority, etc. When night falls, the grand parade of folk songs and dances are going to start-the gallant drum corps, the happy dragon dance troupes and the comic traditional festivities move forward slowly. You will be very happy with the accompaniment of the folk music played by the Music Fountain, as well as the moving light beams in the sky. There are also some professional performances in the villages everyday, such as the large-scale national costume dance 'Oriental Dress', combining national costumes, dance and music, a horse riding show depicting the battle led by Genghis Khan and 'Dancing with the Dragon and the Phoenix' etc.
In addition, there are large-scale folk festival activities held here every month such as the Torch Festival of the Yi minority, the Water-pouring Festival of the Dai minority, etc.
