Guangzhou Subway, the urban rail traffic system of the city, was put into use in June 28th, 1997, with a total of 5 lines in operation. However, the present five metro lines are not enough for Guangzhou's transportation, and the subway system of the city is still under construction. Since 2004, Guangzhou Subway has been opened an average of 35 km (21.7 miles) annually. As planed, the operational mileage will reach up to 600 km (372.8 miles) in the future. Line 1: 1. Huadiwan Station: located at the north of Huadiwan Avenue, the station is very close to the dainty street of donkey's meat, and a flower, bird & fish market.
2. Fangcun Station: the station is one of the longest underground stations in Asia. It is near the Huangdaxian Temple, Fangcun Port, and Bai'etan Bar Street.

2. Guangzhou Railway Station: The Station is the transfer station of Line 2 and Line 5.

4. Zoo Station: The station is located in the square of the south gate of the zoo.

Ticket Ticket Types: There are two types of tickets of Guangzhou Subway: the single ticket and the multi-pass ticket.
Single Ticket: this kind of ticket can be used for only one time within 24 hours.
Multi-pass Ticket: this kind of ticket can be used many times with some credits in it, and can be recharged.
Ticket Purchasing Procedures: Single Ticket:
1. Find The Ticket Vending Machine.
2. Choose your departure and destination stations on the screen of the machine.
3. Click on the number of the tickets you are going to buy.
4. Put in appropriate sum of money. Only coin and paper money of CNY 0.5 and CNY 1 and paper money of CNY 5 and CNY 10 are acceptable.
5. Take out the ticket and your change.
Multi-pass Ticket (charge & recharge):
1. Click the 'Charge' icon on right side of the screen of the Ticket Vending Machine.
2. Put in your ticket (the ticket can be bought at the ticket centers of each station).
3. Put in money, and the machine will charge your ticket automatically. Only paper money of CNY 50 and 100 are accepted, and the maximum credits on the ticket can be no more than CNY 200.
4. You can also charge your ticket at the ticket centers of each station.
Ticket Refunding: 1. The Single Ticket can only be refunded within 30 minutes of purchasing.
2. A deposit amount is included in the first credit on the Multi-pass Ticket. The deposit will be returned if you ask for a refund.
