Day 02: Hohhot

Show on the Gegentala Grassland
Music instrument of Mongolian Minority

The fantastic journey begins today. The considerate private transfer will be arranged for you to reach to the Gegentala Grassland, which is the largest Mongolian scenic zone boasting the unique features in Hohhot. It is around 140 kilometers north of the city. The word of Gegentala means a summer resort or a place of grazing in summer in Mongolian. On the fascinating grassland, the weather is cool and comfortable, which gives people a sense of wellbeing. Here the luscious grass, the sweet water and the rolling downy landscape make the vivid and pleasing picturesque natural scenery. Besides, the herd of horses, camels and sheep, the colorful wild flowers and the unsophisticated herdsman make the scene more beautiful.

In addition to the typical scenery of the Gegentala Grassland, the traditional Mongolian food and local activities are also attractive for travelers. There are many cultural activities including the cavalry reception, wrestling, archery and the three-skill contest. Travelers are welcomed to take part in the activities and also have the opportunity to sample kumiss, roasted whole sheep and Shoubarou which means boiled mutton eaten with hands. And the visit to a herdsmen’s tent will be arranged, followed by the wonderful Mongolian Singing and Dances Show. In the evening, you will stay overnight at the Mongolian Tent, which is another close touch to the Mongolian lifestyle and the nomad culture. (B+L)

Tip: A tourism festival named Nadamu is held in the grassland every July or August, when there would be numerous local people as well as the travelers. It is a grand meeting and also an annual gala event for the Mongolian. And summer is a favorable season to take the tour.
Day 03: Hohot

Today you will visit the Dazhao Lamasery, Wuta Temple and the Tomb of Zhaojun. The Dazhao Lamasery, also called the Silver Buddha Temple, is the oldest and the largest Buddhist temple in Hohhot. Located nine kilometers south of Hohhot city, the Tomb of Zhaojun is one of the top eight travel destinations of Hohhot.
