Wuhan has a sub-tropical wet monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. The city enjoys abundant rainfall, with an average annual rainfall of about 1,200 millimeters (47 inches). The sunshine is sufficient, accounting for 1,810 - 2,100 hours a year. The average yearly temperature is 15.8 - 17.5 °C (60.4 - 63.5 °F).

As one of the three 'Furnace Cities' in China, it has an unbearably sultry and hot summer. Every summer, days with a temperature reaching over 40 °C (104 °F) number around a dozen. In winter, coldness penetrates every corner of the city. It is quite pleasant in spring and autumn, and the best time to visit Wuhan is March, April, September and October.
