Run-time: 04:30 or 05:30 to 23:00 or 24:00 (daytime); 24:00 to 04:00 (night).Run-time: Most of the buses in Shanghai start to run around 04:30 to 05:30 and stop between 23:00 and 24:00. The night buses are in operation from 24:00 to about 04:00 of the next morning.
Bus Route: There is a total of 1,116 bus lines with 16, 272 buses running daily in Shanghai till the end of the year 2009, including the airport shuttles, tourism routes and night lines. They are either named by numbers, or by the combination of the first and terminal stations' names.
Bus Stops: Unlike the other cities in China, most of the bus stops in Shanghai are set at the intersection of two roads, hence the name. The left are either named by the nearby symbolic buildings, bridge, village, hotels and so on.
Bus Ticket:
A. The ticket of the buses running in the downtown areas of Shanghai is CNY 1 per person for the bus lines within 13 kilometers (8 miles) long, CNY 1.5 for those over 13 kilometers, and CNY 2 for all of the air-conditioned buses running on any route.
B. The ticket of the suburban lines and special lines are charged according to the distance traveled with a minimum charge of CNY1.
Tips:
A. Shanghai Transport IC Card can be got at the branches of Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, Bank of Communications, bus stations, Haode or Liangyou Convenience Stores, with a deposit of CNY20 per card.
B. Passengers are advised to take some loosen change for the buses without a conductor. Transport IC cards can be used on most of the buses in shanghai, but passengers taking the buses charged by distance have to touch the card to the reader machine when embark on the bus and then again when disembark from the bus.
C. The card can also be used for taking taxis, subways, light rails and ferries.
