Known as the 'Sunshine City', Lhasa is bathed in glorious sunshine for more than 3,000 hours a year. It enjoys a delightful climate, neither too cold in winter nor hot in summer. It is dry and windy in winter and spring, thus the best sightseeing time is from April to October.

The annual temperature averages 15.7 °C (60.3 °F), In June, the temperature averages around 15 °C (59 °F) and rises to its maximum, 28 °C (82 °F). In January, the temperature averages -2 °C (28.4 °F) and may drop to its minimum, -14 °C (6.8 °F). Lhasa has a rainfall of only 500 millimeters (19.7 inches) which is mostly concentrated in July, August and September.
