China Tour Reviews

Greetings Linda and Lydia:

Much regrets for the delay in getting the enclosed to you. We do hope they fit.

You previously requested feedback on our experiences while on the trip. On the whole, we would classify the entire adventure as "Outstanding". You deserve much of the credit for how well things went. Dee and I are very much appreciative of your efforts on our behalf.

There are a few thoughts that we will share with you, both pro and con:
All of our tour guides did an excellent job:
Beijing = Macy at airport and later Selina and Mr. Wong (very personable and friendly, opened car door for us)
Xian = Dawn and Mr. Lee (not at all like Mr. Wong)
Lhasa = Dolma (a very thoughtful young lady)
Chongqing = Ella and Mr. Lee (was not prepared with water in the car)
Yichang = Ginger (attentive)
Shanghai= Elferin and Mr. Sun

In Beijing we did lose track of Selina for a little bit in the crowds at the Forbidden City. That was a little frightening. Fortunately she had given us her cell number and a guard was kind enough to call her. She was very, very apologetic and concerned. She watched us more closely after that.

In Xian, unfortunately we regret to report we did not fully appreciate the Tang Dynasty Dinner Show. In fact, left early. The food was good. And, we cannot tell you how much we thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated meeting you there.

In Lhasa, Dolma took us to carpet factory and we purchased a nice carpet which we will look forward to having in our new home soon; the folks at the carpet place were all very friendly & helpful; she also treated us to an impromptu lunch at an unscheduled café. That was a treat. The employees that we met were very friendly and kind.

In Chongqing, the zoo was a bit disappointing [can see the panda(s) at the San Diego Zoo better] and we could have done without the "museum", gift shop.

The Yangtze River trip alone was worth the trip. Accommodations on the Century Diamond were excellent.

Nothing remarkable regarding Yichang and Shanghai (would like to return here). The two ladies did a fine job.

The accommodations at each of our destinations were all very good, although the one in Xian seemed a little "tired”, however, staff and room were nice. While in Tibet, it was fortunate for Hadley that there was oxygen in the room – it helped with his altitude illness. All the breakfast buffets were incredible and it was a nice touch to begin our day with such a wonderful variety of foods. It was convenient and enjoyable to have lunch as part of the package. It introduced us to the Chinese culture on a different level as we experimented with our menu choices.

Should our travels take us to China again, you will be hearing from us. And, when the opportunity arises we will definitely recommend your service.

Be well in the Year of the Dragon.

Best Regards,

Dee Roberts and Hadley McGaughey
