We regret not having given you our impressions of our August Trip. It was our 25th trip to China and our second with your company.
1. Over all it was very good. We enjoyed our guides and drivers and our hotels were good except for the one in Lijiang, and a disappointment in Hangzhou at Landison. It is a clean commercial hotel in the center. We could have been better served on the lake at Sheraton. We very much liked the Hyatt on the Bund in Shanghai.
2. If we knew what we now know about Eastern China we would have limited our trip to Shanghai and Nanjing.
Hangzhou, Suzhou and Wuxi were repeats of the parks and urban areas of Nanjing. In other words, we saw too many gardens and too many places that looked and felt the same.
FYG the bullet train from Shanghai to Beijing is only 5 hours, 4 hours from Nanjing. It is much better and just as fast as taking a plane when you add trips to and from airports, waiting etc. We enjoyed the three bullet trains in Southeast China. You may consider this for future clients.
3. Chengdu was a special destination for us as we knew it had hi-tech, auto, steel and 40 Universities. Our guide was very sweet and caring.
4. Kunming, Shangri-la, and Nanjing were outstanding.
5. We appreciated our hotel Intercontinental in Hong Kong where we got an upgrade as we are members of their Ambassador Club.
6. We stayed in Red Capital Residence a small special Inn in the Royal Granary Hu-Dong. It was special. but not for most Americans unless they know and appreciate old China. We visited a former American student working in Beijing.
