first of all, i wanted to say thank you as we felt you did a great job from beginning to end. when i initially inquired abour tours in Xian, you were the most prompt in your reply. Your prompt response and attention to detail obviously made me choose to use your services. In addition, i felt that your prices were very reasonable and in fact, we canceled a prior reservation with another company since your prices were ideal. during the course of the past several months when issues and questions about the trip came up, you were always quick to respond.
The hotel was fantastic. Clean and luxurious as advertised (the Shangrila in the high tech area). The breakfast buffet was outstanding and plentiful. the service at the hotel was excellent.
Our guide was Tracy who was excellent. her english was skillful and her knowledge vast. she was extremely helpful with even the little things like checking us into our hotel. The vehicle we used was fine.
We did go visit a family..meaning that we went to a private residence and had tea. This was not my favorite part of the touring experience. She did not speak chinese and the TV was really loud and kept on the whole time we visited. My parents were able to converse with the host in chinese but overall, this was small talk and i would recommend that this part be omitted from the schedule.
In addition, we did go see a show which included dinner. overall, i prefered other more "exciting" shows like those i've seen in the past...for example, the acrobats in shanghai. This show was mostly a musical...albeit the costumes were pretty, there was not much context to the perfomance. The dinner with the show was certainly geared more for westerners. although we live abroad in the united states, we are chinese and felt that the meal was too "westernized" ...i appreciate the fact though that the average tourist who may have limited exposure to authentic chinese cuisine may in fact enjoy the meal.
Other than a few differing opinions on entertainment and food preferences, overall, we had a wonderful experience in xian. my only suggestion would be that the visit to the local Chinese family be omitted....we wondered why we had to bother with this as the host didn't speak english and didn't seem too interested in having us there. otherwise, we are extremely happy with the service we got both before the trip (in terms of correspondances) and our actual guided tour with tracy.
