As I mentioned to your representative in Xian many Americans would probably prefer simpler, blander food but we do not. An added feature for any tour might be a choice of 2 or 3 set meals that run the gamut from blander to spicier or some mix. In fact you might want to consider a separate tour for “foodies†like us who really enjoy a wide range of styles and tastes—this could include special meals at notable restaurants. The lunch on the day we went to the Ming tombs was quite good.
All were quite good, although we thought that Nancy (Xian), Ken (Chongqing) and Gerry (Wuhan) were exceptionally knowledgeable about the cities and culture. We thoroughly enjoyed extended conversations with all three and would have liked to spend even more time with them.
All the guides speak quite good English and we had no trouble communicating with them. And also all seemed well informed and even went out of their way to look information up that they didn’t know right away. Really they were all quite pleasant to deal with and we enjoyed their company.
The drivers and cars were all very good - I would single out Mr. Tang in Beijing in particular. He always had a ready smile and negotiated the Beijing traffic extremely well.
There are 3 main points I would single out for comment: (1) We really appreciated the ability to tailor many of the sites we visited to our particular tastes and interests and to add free days when we wanted time to explore on our own. (2) In particular the Holiday Inn Central Plaza in Beijing was an excellent hotel. Although not in the heart of the city, the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful and it was easy to get around by taxi. We really enjoyed wandering the area around the hotel in the evenings and walking along the canal. (3) At every point your staff was exceptional in answering my questions and providing information to help us plan our itinerary. Truly this all made for a most memorable China trip for us.
Once again thank you all for helping us to craft what was a very nice China trip.
