Meals were good, but there always seemed to be too much food. We could always find something that we really liked as there was plenty to choose from. We donot remember the names of the restaurants, but lunch on our second day in Beijing and on our first day in Chengdu were particularly good. The guides helped us order and did a good job helping.
All our drivers were helpful and pleasent, and always ready on time.
All the guides were knowledgable, kind, conscientious and easy to communicate. All of them spoke excellent English. Lily, in Beijing was delightful. She made sure we had a good time in spite of rainy weather. She helped us (at our request) learn more Chinese phrases. Her commentary really enriched our experience. Besides that, she was really fun to be around, we laughed a lot. She also made an effort to help us find western bathrooms which we really appreciated. She made sure our trip got off to a great start.
All the guides were very prompt and the drivers amazed us by being so close to the door every time. We felt very well cared for. The guides helped us take photos and were very accommodating, including helping us shop when we asked, and even if we were looking for something unusual. Julie in Guilin was very attentive and she told us lots of stories, both fact and fiction, that made the sights we saw come to life. We really appreciated her. Tracy made us sorry that our trip was ending. She helped us use our short time in Shanghai to the best advantage and made us want to return. We were with Maggie only a short time, but enjoyed her very much.
One thing would be helpful concerned the train. We did not know that we needed to change trains one day into our two day train journey, and move all our luggage to another train. No one spoke English on the train so it was a little stressful, but we managed OK anyway. Not a big problem, but more instructions in advance would have been helpful.
