Dear Eileen and Lynn,
My apologies for the delay in responding, it's been a bit hectic since I came back. I LOVED the China trip, it was fantastic.
Beijing was great, I would have liked slightly more time in Tian'anmen Square, the guide was good, the hotel was lovely and the food good, the trip to Tibet was good, very interesting and informative, slightly too long there which I know was not your fault, the food was variable, the restaurant on the second day was not so good, the hotel was okay once we were moved rooms, again not your fault, a high official took over the best part of the hotel. Potala Palace, Sera Monastery, Jokhar temple and Barkhor excellent. . Xi'an was EXCELLENT, lovely very informative guide with a good sense of humour and a lovely manner, nothing was too much trouble, excellent hotel, loved the Terracotta Warriors and plenty of time there which was good. LOVED the Tang Dynasty show and the Dumpling Banquet, would have liked slightly better weather! It was good to meet Eileen and the payment for the trip was smooth and efficient. Xian definitely my favourite (with the Yangtse/Three Gorges Cruise!) Chongqing was very interesting and preferred the trip to the Pandas rather than the Great Mosque, meal okay but not brilliant, liked being able to visit a local market. The cruise was great and everything I expected, lovely cabins, excellent facilities, liked the excursions and would have liked to have been able to stay on deck for the whole of the trip through the lock at the Three Gorges Dam but had to leave before we got through as the dinner was at 8 and we didn't get through until about 8.30 p.m. Enjoyed being able to return to look at the dam the next day despite the early hour!
The Yuyuan Garden in Shanghai was delightful and my favourite, much better than I expected. I would have preferred to eat in a more local hotel/restaurant as we spent more time than we needed going back downtown, or maybe a hotel nearer to downtown would have been better but the hotel was lovely. We did the Maglev to the airport in the morning which should be included in the tour, it is magnificent!
Thank you so much for organising such a brilliant trip, I plan to do the Trans Siberian railway to Beijing next year so may well contact you with a view to organising accommodation and trips when I am back in China.
Kind Regards, especially to Lynn & Eileen
