China Tour Reviews

We have been back home a few weeks, and I finally have a little time to write you back and give you impressions of my trip. The trip was basically two parts - Chengdu and Tibet.

1) Chengdu. Our time was limited because the main destination was Tibet, but we enjoyed our time there. Our guide, Sammy Lee, was a little quiet, but overall she was excellent. She speaks good English and seems to know the sights well. (We went to Emei, Leshan, Irrigation System, and Dufu Cottage). Sammy is very pleasant and it was clear that she was very willing to help. I would highly recommend her as a guide to anybody, and would love to have her as a guide again if we are ever in the Chengdu area in the future. Our driver was also excellent (I don't know his name) - also very helpful, punctual and curteous. We saw the Temple of Marquis Wu during our free morning and it was great. Hoiday Inn Crowne Plaza is a fantastic hotel.

2) Tibet. It is a fascinating region and we are glad we saw it. Lhasa Hotel is comfortable but a little far from the old part of the city. We hung out a lot on our own in the Barkhor area. My wife felt a little sick in Shigatse but with some extra oxygen she got better. (We had taken the medication, Diamox, before going to Tibet, and it helped). I really liked Gyantse - it is a small town, and old charms are preserved. Gyantse Hotel is a lovely place, and they gave us so much food!! Part of the roads are bad, but the car we had - Toyota Landcruiser - was great. Our guide, Phurbu, was extremely knowledgeable, and we were glad to have a Tibetan guide, because I felt that he explained Tibetan art and culture very well. My wife and I felt, though, he did not go out of his way to make our trip memorable like many Chinese tour guides we had in the past, but this is not a criticism - we were generally very happy with the guide. The driver was very pleasant and helpful. I wish we had more time to go further west toward Nepal and visit Everest Base Camp - perhaps next time.

3) Question. I was very pleased with all aspects of the trip, and would love to use ChinaTour360 service for my future travel to China. Specifically, do you arrange for tours to the Silk Road, Yunnan Province (Lijiang, Kunming, etc), and also Mongolia? We will probably travel to one of these places sometime next year.

Thank you.
