Suzhou has four distinct seasons and abundant rainfall. It enjoys a temperate climate, with a mean annual temperature of 15.7 °C (60.3 °F). The temperature averages 28.2 °C (82.8 °F) in July, the hottest month, and 3.0 °C (37.4 °F) in the coldest month, January. The average annual precipitation totals 1,094 millimeters (43.1 inches) and drizzling rain is predominant from mid-June to early July. In winter, it is quite dry with little rainfall.
In spring, the temperature averages 14.2 °C (57.6 °F) and rises quickly. It is generally warm, but the temperature may drop below 0 °C (32 °F) in early April. In summer, the temperature averages 26.6 °C (79.9 °F) and the highest temperatures occur in July. In autumn, the temperature averages 17.6 °C (63.7 °F) and remains high through to early September. In the cooler months, the temperature averages 4.4 °C (39.9 °F), but it has seldom snowed in recent years.
Sightseeing in Suzhou is possible all year around, however the best time is from April to October.
