Ask Question

Jingzhou was a place of great strategic importance in the Three Kingdoms Period (220 - 280 BC). The Wei Kingdom, Shu Kingdom and Wu Kingdom had been battling on this land for over 70 years. In the classic literature-Romance of Three Kingdoms, lots of stories concerning Jingzhou are very popular and local people take delight in talking about every site they know. Thus the relics and sites bearing vivid stories are a treasure of the city.

Liubei and the Gong'an Gate: Gong'an gate in the southeast of the Ancient City Wall is said to be the gate that Liu Bei entered Jingzhou each time he inspected the city.

Desheng Jie and Horse Cleaning Pool: the street outside the North Gate of Jingzhou City is called Desheng Jie (Triumphal Street). A legend goes that the General Guan Yu of the Shu Kingdom gained a great triumph over the Cao army of the Wei Kingdom in the Han River when he guarded Jingzhou. People cheered and welcomed all along their way back thus the street was named Desheng Jie. The pool east of the north gate is called the Horse Cleaning Pool in which, it is said, Guan Yu cleaned his horse.

Parading Platform: Located in the west gate of Jingzhou City. It is said to be the platform where Guan Yu trained his army. Not far from the platform is a small hill where Guan Yu trained his horse.

Beside the abovementioned, lots of other sites are to be discovered. There are sites Guan Yu rested every time he won a battle, the place he fell and lost his life, and the spring that was said dug by Guan Yu's horse. Increasing number of visitors pay a visit to the Temple of Guanyu and the Chunqiu Pavilion (the Spring and Autumn Pavilion) every year where visitors can learn more about the heroes in the Three kingdoms Period.
