Yumbu Lakang is located on the top of a small hill 5 km southeast of Nedong County, Shannan. It faces the cliff on three sides. Built more than 2,000 years ago, it is the first palace in Tibetan history, and the first Tibetan emperor is said to live here. 'Yumbu Lakang' means 'a palace on the hind leg of a doe' in Tibetan language, because the small hill beneath the palace resembles a hind leg of a doe. There are many cultural relics in the palace, such as the statue of Princess Wencheng (a Tang-Dynasty princess), the statues of Sakyamuni, murals and the Buddhist Scriptures.
