Taiwan's climate is characterized by its high temperature. The hottest month is July, with an average temperature of 27-28oC (82oF), while in February, the temperature averages 15oC (59oF). It is warm all the year round, and snow never falls on the island.
Rain is abundant, with an average annual rainfall of over 2,000 millimeters (79 inches). The welcome rainfall is attributed mainly to the monsoonal influence. The wind is very strong from October to March of the following year. From June to October, typhoons can strike the island, with August the most active period. These bring plentiful rain, but they can also bring destruction to the environment, lives and property.
