It is quite dry, and has a wide daily temperature range. The annual average temperature is about 9 °C (48 °F). In winter, sunny days predominate, but the temperature is generally below 0 °C (32 °F). In summer, the temperature ranges between 21 °C and 26 °C (70 - 79 °F). In spring, strong winds are prevalent but are polluted with coal dust. Consequently, the best time to visit Taiyuan is from May to October.
