Mainly built in the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), the Great Wall in Beijing is the representative of Chinese Great Wall. There are the famous Badaling Great Wall, the Mutianyu Great Wall with splendid scenery, the breath-taking Simatai Great Wall, and the best-preserved Ming-dynasty Great Wall Jinshanling Great Wall.
In Gansu Province, archaeologists have uncovered the Great Walls of the Warring States Period (476 BC - 221 BC), the Qin Dynasty (221 BC - 207 BC), the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220), the Five Dynasties and Ten States (907 - 979) and the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), which totals 4,000 km (2,485.5 miles).
During the 2,000 years from the Warring States Period (476 BC - 221 BC) to the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911), Shanxi was built with the Great Walls of over 7,000 Li (2,174.8 miles). There are the Great Walls of the Warring States Period (476 BC - 221 BC), the Eastern Wei (220 - 265), the Northern Dynasties (386 - 581), the Sui Dynasty (581 - 618), the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279), the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), and the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911).
Located 15 km (9.3 miles) east of Qinhuangdao City in Hebei Province, Shanhaiguan is a pass in the northeast of the Ming-dynasty Great Wall. Built in 1381, the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), Shanhaiguan Pass is known as 'the No. 1 pass under heaven'. It is situated against the Yanshan Mountain and faces the Bohai Sea, hence the name Shanhaiguan (the pass between mountain and sea).The Great Wall within the Shanhaiguan area is 26 km (16.2 miles) long, along which there are many Ming-dynasty architectures, including the streets, courtyards and gate towers.
Yulin Great Wall was very important to protect the central government from the northern enemies in ancient times, thus the Great Wall of many dynasties were built in Yulin, such as the Great Walls of the Warring States Period (476 BC - 221 BC), the Sui Dynasty (581 - 618), and the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644). Zhenbeitai Fort, the No. 1 fortress of Chinese Great Wall, is also situated here, connected by the Ming-dynasty Great Wall from the east the west sides.
