Situated southeast to the Forbidden City in Beijing, Temple of Heaven was the place where emperors of the Ming (1368 - 1644) and Qing Dynasties (1644 - 1911) held ceremonies to worship heaven. It has two layers of walls, forming the inner enclosure and the outer enclosure. Three principle structures lie along the primary north-south axis in the inner enclosure of the Temple of Heaven complex, including the Altar to Heaven, the Imperial Vault of Heaven, and Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest.
