Beijing South Railway Station has a history of more than 100 years, dating back to 1897, when it was called Majiabao Railway Station. In 1902, the station's name changed to Yongdingmen Station, then in 1988 it changed again to the Beijing South Railway Station. The station was under reconstruction between 2006 and 2008, and re-opened August 1st, 2008. The new South Railway Station mainly handles the bullet trains traveling to Taishan, Qingdao, Jinan, Shijiazhuang, Qinhuangdao, Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Shanghai, and the intercity trains to Tianjin and Tanggu District in Tianjin. The main building of Beijing South Railway Station is a two-story building with three floors underground. The train platform and is on the first floor and the second floor is home to a 47,654-square-meter (56,993 square yards) station hall. To the east and west of this floor are the entrance halls, and in the middle is the waiting hall. Ticket offices are located at each of the four corners of the station hall (the station has 84 train ticket windows and 39 auto ticket machines). The station hall and the platform floor are connected by underground transfer floors and 111 escalators. The first basement level holds a transfer station, and exit areas leading to the parking lots. Here passengers can leave the station from the east and west exit halls and go up to the northern and southern squares to take buses or taxies. The second basement level holds the subway station of Subway Line 4, and the third underground floor holds the subway station of Subway Line 14 (under construction).

It is very convenient for passengers to transfer from Beijing South Railway Station, as it takes only 2 minutes' walk to the bus stops in the railway station, and 1 minute's walk to the subway station of Subway Line 4 underground.

Buses to the Northern Square of the South Railway Station: Buses No. 20, 53, 63, 122, 102, 106, 203 (Night), 208 (Night), 377, 381, 454, 485, 692, 741, 800, 927 (Interzone), 939, 943, 943 (Interzone), 958, 986, 997, Te 3, and Tongyun 102.
Buses to the Southern Square of the South Railway Station: Buses No. 529, 652, 72, Te 5, Te 8 (Inner Loop-line Express), and 665. 

 Subway Line: Subway Line 4 

 By Taxi:
Passengers can take taxi on the Northern Square in Beijing South Railway Station. The detailed charges for Beijing taxi are as follows:

 Transfer From Beijing South Railway Station to other Railway Stations:
To Beijing Railway Station: Take Buses No. 20, 122, or 692
To West Railway Station: Take Buses No. 72 or 122 to the Southern Square of Beijing West Railway Station.
To North Railway Station: Take Subway Line 4 to Xizhimen Station. 

 To the Capital International Airport:
a. Take Bus No. 652 on the Southern Square of Beijing South Railway Station to Liujiayao Bus Stop, and change to Subway Line 5 to Yonghegong Lama Temple Station, then transfer to Subway Line 2 to Dongzhimen Station, and finally change to Subway Airport Line.
b. Take Bus No. 986 or 741 to Balihe Bus Stop, and take the Airport Shuttle Bus Line 1 at Fangzhuang (Guiyou Building) to the Capital International Airport.
c. Take Bus No. Te 3 to Dabeiyaobei Bus Stop, and take the Airport Shuttle Bus Line 1 at Fangzhuang (Guiyoudasha) to the Capital International Airport.
d. Take Bus No. 20 to the West of Beijing Railway Station Bus Stop (Beijing Zhan Kou Xi), and take the Airport Shuttle Bus Line 3 at Beijing International Hotel to the Capital International Airport.
e. Take Bus No. 692 to Beijing Railway Station Qianjie Bus Stop (Beijing Zhan Qianjie), and take the Airport Shuttle Bus Line 3 at Beijing Railway Station to the Capital International Airport.
f. Take Bus No. 122 or 800 to Fangchengyuan Station, and take the Airport Shuttle Bus Line 1 at Fangzhuang (Guiyou Building) to the Capital International Airport.
g. Take Bus No. 106 to the Inner Dongzhimen Bus Stop (Dong Zhi Men Nei), and take the Airport Shuttle Bus Line 2 at Dongzhimen to the Capital International Airport.
h. Take Bus No. 102 to South of the Xidan Crossing Bus Stop (Xidan Lu Kou Nan), and take the Airport Shuttle Bus Line 2 at Xidan (Civil Aviation Mansion) to the Capital International Airport.

Tips: The intercity train traveling between Beijing South Railway Station and Tianjin is the first express intercity train traveling at the speed of 350 km/h (217 miles per hour). It runs from 06:15 to 22:10 every 15 minutes, and the ticket fares are CNY 58 for the second class and CNY 69 for the first class.
